Frequently Asked Questions
A. How do I know if this camp is right for my child?
If your child has difficulty reading the following words with ease, this camp will help them read them with ease by the end of the four weeks.
insurmountable, contaminate, impressionable, impracticality, fundamentally, and concealment.
B. How can I ensure that my child will make significant progress during the summer reading camp?
According to the research behind our curriculum, students who were initially reading at a 2nd or 3rd grade level improved their reading abilities by 1 to 2 grade levels after learning the strategies taught in the curriculum. On average, these students were able to read at a 4th grade level after completing the program, which demonstrates significant progress in reading.
Per the research, students showed statistically significant differences in reading skills on criterion measures of multisyllabic word reading (3-4 syllable words) and multisyllabic word reading in sentences. The students who read an average of approximately 8 out of 48 words on the pretest, were able to read an average of 31 out of 48 words after learning the strategy and increased in their performance in general word recognition on standardized tests.
1. What is your student to teacher ratio?
Your teacher will be Asia Hutchins, M.S. CCC-SLP, a licensed and certified Speech-Language Pathologist, who has expertise in reading research, reading acquisition, reading comprehension, and literacy. Asia is the owner and Lead Speech-Language Pathologist of Eloquent Speech and Language Therapy and a Researcher at The Florida Center for Reading Research.
We will close admission at 10 students per session. This low student to teacher ratio will permit us to provide students with personalized instruction.
2. Do you group students by age?
Our rising 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will have whole-group and small group lessons.
3. Are Session 1 and Session 2 the same?
Yes. Both sessions will offer the same intensive reading curriculum. Two different sessions are being offered for flexibility during the summer. If you enroll your child in Session 1, your child will not be able to make-up sessions during Session 2.
4. Do you require a deposit?
Yes, a 50% deposit will be required at the time of registration. The remaining 50% will be charged the first day your child attends camp.
5. Will we receive a report as to how our child is doing?
You will receive a progress report after two weeks into our program and a summary report at the end of the summer enrichment camp.
6. Will meals be provided?
We will provide daily snacks for your child. You may provide additional snacks and a bottle of water, as well.
7. How can I maximize my child's success during reading camp?
